The first time I decided to give Audible a try was when I booked my trip to Nepal. It was my first trip out of the country, and had a few layovers and an airport transfer in London, so I wanted to pack light for the plane. Books always weigh down my carry-ons. Especially since I was carrying on my Manduka Mat and my iPad, I didn’t want anything else I’d have to lug on my shoulders around the airport. I knew I was going to have to find creative ways to kill time on the airplane, so I signed up for a subscription to Audible right away.

I was one of those people that didn’t want to give up the feel, touch, and turning the pages of a book. There’s nothing like snuggling up with a book right before bed, or some quiet time on my porch reading a book on a sunny Florida day.  Turns out though, Audible is AMAZING because now I go crazy with audio books! It not only made my airplane trip fly by, but now I listen at work, while I’m cleaning, and it’s actually nice to lay back on the couch, close my eyes, and just listen to the story.

Audible

Because I love Audible so much, I’m hosting a GIVEAWAY which starts today and runs through April 6th. I’m giving away one $30 Gift Certificate to one lucky winner.

To enter, all you have to do is:

  1. Post a comment on this blog post listing one of your favorite books, and I’d love to hear why it’s your favorite. Did something resonate with you? Is it something from your childhood? Was it life changing?  Did it make you laugh a lot?
  2. Sign up through Rafflecopter (Scroll down to see)

Here are a few of my favorites from Audible.com (Click on the Picture or Title for more info):

Bossy Pants

Tina Fey – BossyPants: This was my first Audible book that I listened to on the airplane. It was long enough to last me the trip to Nepal and back. I didn’t listen to it the whole time, but it definitely helped make my trip fun. Tina Fey is hilarious first of all, but her confidence and feminist banter is what is so admirable. The book covers so many topics from awkward dating moments in her childhood, to her life on SNL, and her time on 30Rock. She’s pretty much a rockstar in my book.

orange

Orange Is The New Black: My Time In A Women’s Prison: I started out watching the Netflix Series, and I couldn’t believe this was actually a true story. I knew the prison system was broken, but I had no idea the horrific details about how these women were harassed, mocked, and treated like objects. I wanted to know how much of this was real and how much was drama, so I listened to the Audio Book to kill time at work. I was fascinated to find that a lot of the treatment she experienced is pretty accurate, but I think you’ll find it pretty interesting what they changed for the show. If you’ve watched the series, then you’ll love the book as much as I did!

 Anne Frank

Anne Frank:The Diary of a Young Girl, The Definitive Edition: I can’t remember the last time I read this book all the way through, and I had forgotten so much about the original story. Did you know the movie has some added scenes that are not 100% accurate? I wanted to get back in touch with the original version again, so when I searched for the book on Audible, I was excited to find this version that was narrated by Selma Blair. She did a really great job narrating it. Most of all, I was really moved by Anne’s optimistic outlook on life and how much love she poured out of her heart. It’s a really beautiful story.

The Boy In The Striped Pajamas is my latest purchase! Audible recommended it for me, but I have to say that I purchased it because of their description below. I absolutely have to find out what happens in this book! I wonder if I will be able to give a more detailed description. Stay tuned….

The most recent book I read was Surprised By Motherhood which will be launched next week, but I had a sneak peek at a pre-release copy. Great writings about real moms in the real world, and the good, the bad and the ugly with no added guilt trips.

I adore “Living Loving and Learning” by Leo Buscaglia. His books gave me a fresh look on life. I think he had an amazing perspective and his books help you remember to reach in and find a deeper connection through love and to strengthen your excitement of learning and growth.

You can heal your life by Louise Hay. I have taken on her belief that all dis eases are caused by trapped emotion. This book has a reference guide on the dis eases and the emotion attached to them. I can really solve some problems every time I read this one 🙂

I’ve been listening to the Clifton Chronicles on Audible which begins with “Time Will Only Tell.” Its the epic family saga that begins in the early 20th century and is told from all of the major character’s perspectives – its really good!

I love Rachel Dratch’s autobiography, “A girl walks into a bar.” It is In the same vein as Tina Fey’s autobiography. Both have lots of funny stories but also look at the deeper meaning of life. Also they both read the audiobooks themselves! Makes it more funny to hear the writer reading the story. Thumbs up.

I think one of my favorite books ever was Bill Bryson’s “In A Sunburned Country”. It’s gut-busting hilarious but also a really well-written travel book, and fulls of cool info about the history and nature of Australia.

The first book down my current path was “Siddhartha” by Hermann Hesse. It was eye opening. It brought to mind my own journey of self-discovery. It also made me aware of the people that come in and out of our lives that help us on that path!

My favorite books are The Silver Metal Lover by Tanith Lee and The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. I enjoy dystopian fiction, and these two ladies were writing long before all the new teen apocalyptic fiction became popular.
