I’ve always been envious of people that can afford to get massages on a regular basis. The truth is, if I were to cut back on Starbucks and Thai food, I could probably afford them too, but I would need a good referral. The last thing I want to do is shop around for a good masseuse. That’s a lot of money to spend unless you hit the jackpot on the first one!
I have about 10 projects I’m working on all of the time, and my mind is on overload. My brain seriously cannot retain anymore information, and I’ve been living right on the edge of sanity and stress. You can imagine how blissful it was when Melissa reached out to me to see if I was interested in trying one of her massage services. This was something I was NOT going to pass up!
When I arrived at BodyMx, I had a little trouble finding it, but not too much. It’s a hidden gem tucked behind Cranes Roost Park in the center of an office complex.
Who would think that something that looks like this from the outside:
Would look as peaceful and tranquil as this on the inside! Never judge a book by it’s cover!
I was really happy to see Melissa when I walked in, and her presence was so comforting that I immediately felt all of my worries fall away. She had me fill out a small intake form, which covered my medical history and any emotional or physical issues that I wanted to address during the session. The only thing that I mentioned was that I had a headache, which is pretty uncommon for me.
Since I decided on the Aromamassage and Sugar Back Scrub, she had me pick out which essential oil and scrub I wanted to use. She went over each scent and what the benefits were. I chose Stress Relief because I was feeling overwhelmed, which is most likely what led to my headache. For the scrub, I chose pomegranate because it smelled sweet and refreshing.
I was really surprised to find out that they make all of their products. This made the experience extra special because I knew everything was fresh, and made with so much care and love.
She showed me the way to the room, and then left me alone for a few minutes to prepare for the massage, and get under the covers. She knocked on the door to make sure I was ready, and after I gave the okay, she put on some relaxing music, which made the atmosphere even more peaceful.
The massage began, and she made sure to ask me a few times if the pressure was okay, and to tell her if she was massaging too hard. She also asked me where my head hurt, so I pointed right above my eyebrows. Her pressure was really perfect. It wasn’t too intense, but just enough to work out some knots. The smell of the aromatherapy put me into a spell, and I could feel my muscles let go and relax after a few minutes. I realized after about 10 minutes that my headache was completely gone.
The whole massage was phenomenal, and I didn’t want it to end! Right when I thought it was over, Melissa mentioned we were going to start the back scrub. That was such a surprise because I had completely forgotten about it, and just happy to have more massage time.
She had me lay on my stomach as she exfoliated my back with the scrub. It was nice to have someone do that since it’s an area that’s hard to reach and often gets neglected when I try to do that on my own. To finish off, she had a towel that she soaked in warm water, which she laid evenly on my back, and gently removed the scrub. She did this about two or three times until it was completely gone. After that, she finished up the massage, and told me I could take my time getting up and dressed. Whenever I was ready, she’d have some water waiting for me.
I laid there for a few minutes just enjoying the atmosphere and grateful for how relaxed I was. I made a point to come out of the daze slowly appreciating and savoring the moment.
I went out and grabbed my water and talked to Melissa a little bit about the massage. I asked her if there were any areas that she noticed I needed to work on, and she mentioned my shoulders were a little stiff and tight. I’m sure this was caused by stress, and the tightness is what led to my headache. Since I know this now, I have been paying attention to my shoulders, especially when things become busy at work. Doing some self massage in the interim helps, but I now realize the benefit of regular massages.
The great thing about where BodyMx is located is that it’s right across from the lake at Cranes Roost Park, and there is a walking trail. I suggest taking some time to walk over there after your massage, and sit by the lake, or take a stroll on the trail. I found that being in nature by the water was a great way to bring the mind back to neutral, and keep the experience going before hopping back into my car forcing myself directly into a hectic lifestyle.
BodyMx also offers deep tissue massages, cranial sacral therapy, couples massage, hot stone massage, a variety of facials, skinny wraps, and a bunch of other services that can be found here.
If you live in the Altamonte Springs area, I bet you didn’t realize this was right in your backyard, but even if you’re located somewhere else in Orlando, it’s definitely worth the drive.
