I’m so grateful to be living a life that I love.
Now, I want to give back.
Below are a list of charities and nonprofits that are near and dear to me. By purchasing one of the products below, or donating, you are helping someone in need.
I’ll add to this list on a continuing basis.
I hope that one of these resonates with you.
FREE TO BREATHE:
When my Uncle was 62, he passed away from lung cancer. He visited me in September, and was diagnosed in October. He died in December. This was a huge wake up call to my family and me.
What really shocked me was that he had minor symptoms, and was diagnosed at stage 4. At this point, the cancer had moved to his brain, and there was nothing we could do.
Free to breathe’s mission is to ensure surviving lung cancer is the expectation, not the exception. Their vision is Double lung cancer survival by 2022.
To turn this vision into reality, they focus on:
- Funding research with the greatest potential to save lives.
- Increasing the number of lung cancer patients participating in clinical trials.
- Building and empowering the lung cancer community
The next walkathon is in November 2015. Please help me in raising money towards the cure for lung cancer.
COURAGE UNMASKED:
A few years ago, my Aunt Hinda passed away from brain cancer. She was diagnosed with a stage 4 glioblastoma. They were unable to operate because of the shape of the tumor, and because of where the tumor was located.
She decided to undergo treatment, and stayed optimistic the whole time. She woke up each day showing gratitude to be with family, and to experience an extra day on this earth.
After she passed away, my uncle told me that she had to wear a mask during her radiation treatments. One of her friends brought her a catalog, which showcased the used radiation masks turned into an art exhibit. It really made an impression on Hinda. I’ve never forgotten about it, and I’d like to pass the knowledge onto you, too.
The charity is called, 911 4 HNC, and means “Help for Head and Neck Cancer.” This is a unique fund dedicated to granting financial aid directly to patients who have or had head and neck cancer.
Unlike many other foundations, ours does not give dollars to research. We support only individuals and their families in the locations where money is raised.
